The days are starting to get shorter and cooler as we slowly come to terms that summer is long gone, which means it’s really time to give up your tanning oils and tinted moisturizers, and start thinking about fall beauty. Just like rotating our wardrobes with the seasons we should also be going through our skincare, hair and makeup products, and tailoring our fall beauty routine to focus on cold weather care to prepare for the winter months.
It’s no doubt that everyone’s #1 skin concern during the fall and winter is dry skin, so extra hydration should be the first thing you think about when putting together your fall beauty product line up. Think the return of hydrating moisturizers, serums and oils, especially for those with oily skin who might have toned it down during the warmer months. The cooler months are also a great occasion to reverse any sun damage from our endless days outdoors over the last few months, and continue to focus on sun protection even with the shorter days ahead.
This summer saw a lot of the au naturel glow look, with minimal makeup and dewy skin all the rage. While the cooler temperatures allow us to have a little more fun with makeup (praise no face melting!), it’s clear that no-makeup makeup looks are still going strong for fall beauty trends. I’m personally a big fan of minimal makeup all year long, mainly because of the time I save getting ready. But the fall beauty trends we’re seeing are taking these looks are taken up a notch and made seasonally appropriate with a bold brows and deep lips.
Another change that appears in our fall beauty routines is having to get back to blow drying our hair, which if you’re like me can be a total drag. Long gone are the days of air dried and salt sprayed hair. Our hair takes on quite a beating during the fall and winter between blow drying, styling during the holiday season and if you live where it gets cold, of course drying out thanks to the constant need for heaters. When it comes to fall beauty routines don’t skimp out on hair care because it’s just as important as skin care!
Fall is known as the biggest transitional season of them all, so it’s no surprise there’s a lot to cover in the fall beauty department! But don’t worry I’ve made it easy to navigate with my fall beauty picks featuring both new and classic favourites I’m currently using for the season.
Fall Beauty Picks 2019
Fall Beauty: Skin Care
AmorePacific Vintage Single Extract Essence
K-Beauty has really dominated the beauty industry as of late, and I’m a huge fan of it. One of the latest K-Beauty skincare brands I’ve discovered and immediately fallen in love with is AmorePacific. Their Vintage Single Extract Essence is unlike any product I’ve used to date with unbelievable results, and a very pleasant addition to my fall beauty product line up. It’s a lightweight liquid that is best used after toning, before serums and moisturizers, and is perfect to add that summer glow to your fall beauty. AmorePacific’s Vintage Single Extract Essence uses the antioxidant power of fermented green tea to improve skin texture, clarity and firmness, while also being a great anti-aging and anti-pollution product. I will admit, the price tag is a little steep but a little product goes a long way so there’s no doubt the 200ml bottle will last quite a while, and with the amazing results I’ve seen having only used the product for just over 2 weeks I think it’s well worth it!

Dior Capture Totale DreamSkin 1-Minute Mask
After all those days out enjoying the warm weather in the sun, our skin does take a bit of sun damage even those of us who use SPF protection. Repairing your skin from sun damage should start with your fall beauty routine as the days get shorter, and we spend less time outdoors. While exfoliating is a year round routine that should be done 1-2 times a week, it’s also a great way to help with reversing sun damage and revive your complexion. I always opt for gentler AHA based exfoliating products so I was super excited to have the chance to try Dior’s Capture Totale DreamSkin 1-Minute Mask. I love that it doesn’t have to stay on the skin long (literally only 1 minute as the name suggests) while leaving your skin looking and feeling amazing! Tightened pores, brightened complexion and smoother skin are all achieved thanks to glycolic, citric and floral acids, with anti-aging benefits from boosted longoza, Dior’s exclusive anti-gravity complex. But just like you would in the summer, I recommend that you add exfoliating to your evening fall beauty routine.

Fall Beauty: Face
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation
Flawless skin is the biggest priority for any makeup look, but especially if you’re going for a dewy minimal look that’s dependent on it. And with flawless minimal skin a top fall beauty trend a good base is a must. My favourite brand for foundation and base makeup is undoubtedly NARS. Their Tinted Moisturizer is my go-to for summer looks and days where I want to be a little more bare-faced, but when I want a little more coverage for my fall beauty looks, I turn to their Sheer Glow Foundation. It’s lightweight formula goes on sheer, a little heavier than their tinted moisturizer, and can be built up for more coverage as needed. I love that it has NARS’ Complexion Brightening Formula that leaves your skin feeling smooth, hydrated and almost glowing which is just what we need as the temperatures cool down. This formula is so easy to apply and leaves you with an au-naturel glow, and for a dewy illuminated finish pair it with their Super Radiant Booster.

COOLA Makeup Setting Spray Sunscreen SPF 30
If there’s one thing a lot of people forget to use during the fall and winter months, it’s SPF protection. While limited sun and cooler temperatures mean we spend less time outside and when we do we’re covered up it doesn’t mean there aren’t some chances for sun exposure. Using SPF products is is just as important for fall as it is in the summer, so finding ways to fit it in your fall beauty routine easily is necessary. COOLA is my favourite brand for both sun care and sunless products, and more recently I’ve been introduced to their beauty products. My favourite to date is their Makeup Setting Spray Sunscreen with SPF 30 that is the perfect way to get sun protection integrated easily into your fall beauty routine. Asides from having SPF protection, this makeup setting spray actually works wonders to hold your makeup looks in place

Fall Beauty: Lips
Henné Organics Rose Diamonds Lip Exfoliator
One of my least favourite effects of the cold weather when it comes to beauty are dry, chapped lips. To be honest it’s probably one of my biggest pet peeves of all time. I do my best to keep my lips moisturized and protected but just like your the rest of your skin it’s important to also exfoliate them, and should included in your fall beauty routine. I’ve used a few different lip exfoliators throughout the years and although I’ve always loved the results of most, the one thing I’ve always been picky with is textures that are too liquid and hard to use without making a total mess. Then I came across Henné Organic’s Rose Diamonds Lip Exfoliator after they were kind enough to send it to me, and it changed the game totally. It’s a thicker texture than any lip exfoliator I’ve ever used with chunky yet extremely delicate sugar crystals, vitamin E and oils like coconut and jojoba that leaves lips smooth and moisturized. It has a delicate rose scent with hints of vanilla that for someone who isn’t usually into floral scents, isn’t by any means overpowering or unpleasant. But if rose isn’t your thing, it also comes in berry and lavender-mint flavours.

Dior Rouge Dior Ultra Care Lipstick
If there’s one makeup tip I inherited from my mother, it’s one should never leave the house without lipstick on even when you’re bare faced. Whether it’s a lipstick, stain or tinted balm I always have at least 3 options with me in my purse at all times. So it should come as no surprise that my favourite fall beauty trend in the makeup department is deep sultry lips ranging from shades of oxblood red, dark burgundies and the 90’s revival of rich browns. I attended Dior’s fall/winter beauty showcase where they revealed all their scents, skin care and cosmetics for the seasons ahead and their Rouge Dior Ultra Care line caught my attention. Available in both liquid and classic lipstick formulas (I tend to gravitate towards classic lipstick over liquid), I immediately fell in love with their deep red and brown lipstick shades available. Both lines are weightless formulas infused with flower oil for colour that moisturizes and hydrates.

Fall Beauty: Hair
T3 Micro Cura Hair Dryer
I gave it away above but blow drying my hair is the least favourite part of my fall beauty routine, asides from it taking more time to get ready it can damage and dry out your hair. But with the right tools and technique it actually is better for your hair to blow dry than letting it totally air dry, as it allows you to seal the hair cuticle and prevent too much water from allowing hair strands to swell and damage the proteins. So with my attempt at summarizing this complicated hair science, my first recommendation for hair care is investing in a good quality blow dryer, like the T3 Micro Cura. Their Digital IonAir technology cuts down drying time, reduces frizz and leaves hair super soft and shiny. The first time I ever used this blow dryer my hair felt 50% healthier, and I haven’t used another hair dryer since. The T3 Micro Cura has 2 speeds settings, 3 temperature options and a cool air mode to help lock in moisture and shine.

Phyto Phytojoba Shampoo, Moisturizing Mask & Care Gel
If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years with hair care, it’s important to use good quality products with clean ingredients if you want healthy hair. One of my favourite natural hair care brands is Phyto, a brand with a long history in the hair industry. Phytojoba is their jojoba based line and is my go to for healthy hydration without weighing down hair that smells like a tropical paradise. It’s the perfect line for those looking for a moisturizing hair care products to add to their fall beauty routine. For a natural based line, their shampoo produces a great amount of lather and works to gently cleanse the hair and scalp while reducing the loss of moisture. For an intense boost of moisture I love using their Moisturizing Mask that just like their shampoo is lightweight but powerful. And for those days where my hair needs a little extra big of hydration, I use their Care Gel for dry hair that absorbs fast and leaves hair silky soft.
