If you follow my style choices, you know that one thing I try and stay way from are jeans. I love the look of denim, and actually own a couple jackets but have always hated shopping for, trying on and wearing jeans. I could never find a pair that felt comfortable on and fit me perfectly that didn’t need some tailoring, or a belt poorly keeping them up.
My struggle with jeans never stopped me from trying, I mean I do own a couple pairs that I love and constantly wear on rotation. But they’re black, and I always gravitate to black jeans. But I still spent every shopping trip a prisoner trying to finding a classic blue pair I can fall in love with, without any luck.
As if my Fairy Denim Mother flew to the rescue, I was asked to spend an afternoon with the Jean Machine team at the Eaton Centre in Downtown Toronto to experience a session with their Masters of Denim during their #FitMatters campaign. Let’s just say I spent a couple hours and tried on more pairs of jeans than I probably have had in my entire life, but needless to say I left with multiple pairs.
Appropriately titled for my relationship with jeans, the #FitMatters session included learning a bit about the brands they carry, their styles, cut and fit, along with the types of denim used. I got to learn about classic brands like Levi’s, Silver Jeans and Mavi, while discovering new ones (and new favourites) like Just Black Denim, Neon Blonde and Canadian brand Yoga Jeans by Second Denim. The most important lesson was learning not every style works with every body, and its important to find a pair that is right for you.
Whether you have all afternoon like I did or need a quick pick for an outfit, the team at knows their stuff and they truly guided me to select fits what worked for my body type, without having to sacrificing style or comfort. For the most part, we go to footwear stores when looking to buy shoes, so why not trust the experts in denim for jeans?!
The result of my afternoon at Jean Machine was 4 (yes, 4!!) pairs of jeans, and that was after having to painfully narrow it down. I never thought I’d be in a position where I couldn’t decided what pairs I wanted! Not to mention two of the pairs I got were on major sale, $25 each!! I know I’ll be back very soon to scoop of the rest of the pairs I had to leave behind because I just can’t live without them!

Such a classic denim brand, I had to leave with a pair of Levi’s and these ones do not disappoint. I was told they were a favourite amongst the Jean Machine team and I can totally see why. They’re skinny fit and perfect high-waist are so flattering and provide the perfect amount of stretch without loosing that cotton denim feel.
Growing up my Gramma always lovingly nagged me about holes in my jeans, and it apparently never stopped me from being obsessed with anything distressed. I love how this Just Black Denim pair are a bit more of a polished take on distressing, like the lowkey rips on the backside hems. They also have great stretch and sit perfectly on the waist making them super comfortable.
I cannot believe what a deal I got on two pairs of jeans! Usually, the sale section is stale ad packed with poorly fitting jeans, but not at Jean Machine. It’s no wonder why I couldn’t resist…
I got a Boyfriend Fit pair by Yoga Jeans by Second Denim and they are hands down a game changer! Asides from being a Canadian brand based in Montréal, they truly fit like no other pair of jeans I’ve put on before. Probably my new favourite brand, they have a 4 way stretch to them and have proven that you can actually do yoga in them, hence the name. The best part to me is these jeans do NOT slide down while sitting, even without a belt, which is probably my biggest pet peeve with jeans. I cut my hems myself just above where they had the seam, because I love a raw hem!
I also picked up another pair of Just Black Denim, appropriately in black, with this dope fringed hem. An American contemporary brand, they have a great selection of styles so it’s no wonder I walked out with 2 of my pairs being from them. The hems are super feminine and fun and I cannot wait to pair them with a great bootie or heel. Just like the High Rise pair I got, these are ridiculously comfortable too!
