The no makeup makeup look is one of those ongoing trends that is really more of a staple than a trend but there’s no disputing light makeup looks and going au-natural is having a bigger moment that usual right now. Celebrities and models alike aren’t afraid to show their makeup free complexions whether it’s thanks to good genes, or an even better esthetician. While a good skincare routine is the first step to flawless skin let’s face it, not everyone can have perfect skin all the time and yes that even includes the rich and famous. And that’s why the no makeup makeup look is something I think everyone should perfect, and have the right products in their arsenal to achieve the look.
With warmer weather on the horizon most tend to ditch the heavier makeup applications for something lighter and easier to wear in the heat. No one wants to worry about heavy foundations melting off or eyeliner running down their face while trying to stay cool. This is why the no makeup makeup look is perfect for the summer, or even while on vacation since you don’t need to worry about packing too many products. Keep your beauty routine quick and easy this season, and try the no makeup makeup look with these 5 products you need in your makeup bag!
The No Makeup Makeup Look: 5 Products You Need In Your Bag
Newt By Elle Marula + Rosehip + Gold Facial Oil
The first step to nailing the no makeup makeup look is having good skin, and after a strong skincare routine you need a good base to apply your makeup on. I love using face oils to prep my skin before any primers especially if I’m going for a glowy look with my skin. I discovered Newt By Elle, a Toronto based brand, at the One Of A Kid Show in Toronto this spring, and fell in love with their face oils. Their Marula + Rosehip + Gold Facial Oil nourishes and hydrates your skin while giving it the perfect glow and is my favourite to use under makeup.

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation
Truly the only way to nail the no makeup makeup look is by having a good foundation that provides coverage without looking like you’re wearing anything. Enter NARS’ Sheer Glow Foundation: a medium (almost light) coverage foundation that’s buildable to allow you to control your level of coverage. For me this is the holy grail of foundations because I usually opt for tinted moisturizers as my daily foundation. NARS Sheer Glow Foundation is the perfect formula to gently hide imperfections while complimenting your complexion for a barely-there base. A little goes a long way with this foundation and rather than smothering it all over my face, when going for the no makeup makeup look I use it more like a concealer to spot blend any imperfection.

Marc Jacobs #InstaMarc Light Filtering Contour Powder
The no makeup makeup look doesn’t mean you can’t contour, instead slightly enhancing your natural bone structure is exactly what the look requires. For lighter contours, I prefer using powder formulas over creams as they wear softer but if you have dryer skin you can get away with a soft cream contour. Recently I got my hands on the Marc Jacob’s #InstaMarc Light Filtering Contour Powder, and having read all the rave reviews about the formula I was super excited to put it to the test. The palette comes with a highlight powder, and contour powder that have a silky formula that goes on light allowing you to build up your coverage, the perfect choice for the no makeup makeup look. The highlight powder is matte perfect for setting under your eyes and cleaning up your contour. I love using the contour powder not only under my cheekbones, jawline and forehead, but also in the crease of eye to slightly define it without wearing eyeshadow.
Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara
I gave up on eyelash extensions about a year ago after noticing my own eyelashes had lost their natural length and volume. So even when going for the no makeup makeup look, I always see mascara as a must-wear. When I went back to wearing mascara, I immediately turned to Yves Saint Laurent’s Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara after hearing it’s formula included castor oil, and is known to be a great pick to help grow your lashes. It’s really just a classic mascara that perfectly enhances your lashes and gives them the extension or false lash look without having to wear them. When going for the no makeup makeup look, I lightly apply one even coat to keep my lashes looking light.
Esthederm Cellular Water Mist
When it comes to the no makeup makeup look your finishing touches are just as important as the first steps. I have to be honest and say I do turn to a few different products as my setting mists, depending on my application or in all honest how I’m feeling. But one of the ones I find myself grabbing more often than not is the Esthederm Cellular Water Mist. It’s an all purpose face mist made from Cellular Water, Esthederm’s patented ingredient, that also includes Hyaluronic Acid to revitalize and refresh your skin. I use this before apply any of my skincare, to set my makeup and I carry around a travel size can to refresh on the go. It’s the perfect finishing touch for your no makeup makeup look leaving your skin hydrated and glowing.
